Annie is a smart, antisocial lesbian starting her senior year of high school who's under pressure to join the cheerleading squad to make friends and round out her college applications. Her former friend Bebe is a people-pleaser, a trans girl who must keep her parents happy with her grades and social life in order to maintain their support of her transition. Through the rigors of squad training and amped-up social pressures (not to mention microaggressions and other queer youth problems), the two girls rekindle a friendship they thought they'd lost and discover there may be other, sweeter feelings springing up between them.
There's a need for more stories with queer characters experiencing cute and fluffy romance. Stories defined not by trauma, but by love and hope. Cheer Up: Love and Pom Poms perfectly fits this mold. Read Full Review

I think it's a lovely story and well told. The characters are fun and I felt connected to them enough to make their arcs hit home. If I was going to be really specific I'd say look out for the moment at the dance when someone comes up to Bebe to tell her something… that may have brought a tear to my eye.For anyone who enjoys a good story with a bit of romance I think this is an excellent purchase… it may be hard to find though as it seems it's already sold out. Not bad for something that isn't out until August! Read Full Review
