Syv is a snowcat and the youngest in a family of princes. When his father dies, Syv and his brothers are all in line for the throne. Eager to become kings themselves and wary of how well-liked Syv has become by the citizens, Syv's brothers send him on a dangerous quest to find the long-lost magical crown that once belonged to their royal ancestor, the Eldking. The Snowcat Prince is a wonderful story with brilliant art. It is a hero's journey, but nestled within is the not only the concept of doing right, but learning to be open-minded. It is hard for Syv to learn that his beloved story may not be entirely true, but that does not stop him from trying to do what is right, not just for the snowcats, but for the sandfoxes and everyone else. Dina Norlund's 'The Snowcat Prince' blends European folklore and fairy tales with modern, super-bright Pixar-ish in a story that looks to provide readers of all ages with something that's never particularly surprising or original but is always highly enjoyable.For fantasy readers, think of it as a comfort blanket of the familiar, something to relax into and enjoy.
