Check out the comic that IO9 calls "A terribly fun read"! Mary Posa hates her job. She works long hours for little pay, no insurance, and, worst of all, no respect. Her coworkers are jerks and her boss doesn't appreciate her. He's also happens to be a supervillain. Cursed with a conscience, Mary would give anything to be something other than a Henchgirl!
The more I read and looked at this issue the more I liked it. The first time I read it I was a bit tired and missed some nuances of the story. After a second read I have to say that it's really, really good. If you like superhero titles then you really should check out Henchgirl because it takes a different take on the genre, a take I have seen since Faith Erin Hicks' Superhero Girl. Read Full Review
I enjoyed the book, but I am not sure if this is because the book is genuinely fun or that I caught it when I was in a cynical mood and as such appreciated some of the more acidic comments. Re-reading hasn't helped as the things I found funny are still funny but once you know the punch line, does it matter how good the set up is? Regardless, I am going to give the benefit of the doubt here. I will be looking up the next issue to see how things fair for Henchgirl. Read Full Review
Henchgirl is not about delivering slam-bang super-hero action, but it is a perfect comic for people who are familiar with standard super-hero tropes and like seeing those turned around and examined from some new angles for comedic effect. Fans of books like Scott Pilgrim should give this a try, I get a similar vibe. It's not derivative, just in that ballpark. I loved what Kristen Gudsnuk is doing here and this quirky gem has earned a place on my pull list. Read Full Review
