A Comic Book Blog - John Barringer Jan 7, 2010

This is a great volume. I can see how it wouldn't be for everyone; Grant can't stay away from his Sci-Fi roots for example, with story elements like ninja Man-Bats, a genetically enhanced and perfected child, and a Bat-rocket and if not carefully read the story can quickly become confusing but if your wanting to keep up or catch up with the current Batman it's a must read and the perfect place to start. And even if you don't fall into that category it's still a great story. Grant Morrison is above all original and deep. This isn't Batman fighting surface level and reused characters like Penguin or Riddler or a call back to other great moments, this is the start of a unique story that leaves Batman in unfamiliar waters with unfamiliar characters. You already have the sense that things are not as they seem and this just wets your palette for more of what Grant Morrison really has cooking. If you haven't already, go ready this. And if you have, read it again. Read Full Review
