The answer to my quandary came from the author himself. In the afterword to volume two, Mashima himself states that he's not sure where these characters are going to take him, and he's as curious as I am, as the reader, to see what stories will develop out of what he's begun. Now to some, that might sound like an invitation to disaster, as most writers are taught to have a definite ending in mind when you begin structuring their masterpieces. However, Mashima has built a very solid foundation with these first two books. So solid, in fact, I was really surprised to hear how he was pretty much winging it. If this is Mashima playing free and loose with his material, then count me in. I'd almost be afraid to see what a structured book from him might be. Read Full Review
