However, the problem many readers may have with Morituri is that it seems exclusively aimed at the show's core audience. Readers without some previous investment in the characters and a preexisting affinity for gory but generic swords-and-sandles stories, may not find much to enjoy with what Morris offers up. The central characters from the show aren't given much in the way of subtext or depth in Morituri, so the book serves as more of an extension of the show, rather than a complete story in its own right. Readers approaching the book fresh will likely find it hard to invest in the story or the characters. That being said, while the loyal viewers of Sparticus may find Morituri unessential, it is a story that will help fill the void when there are no more episodes to watch. Read Full Review
