I feel like an asshole for missing the previous issue, but there was nothing that was going to keep me away from this series. All of Valiant’s titles have been good and most of them great. Even a good issue is usually better than a great issue from the “big two”, but now the entire line is approaching greatness. Shadowman's biggest problem is its art. Neil Edwards is not a bad artist by any stretch of the imagination, but his straightforward style doesn't fit with this series. It's too cartoony and lacks the gritty detail that this horror tale needs. The scenes that take place on the Deadside look better than the world of the living, but they still aren't a match made in heaven. Ultimately, all three of the heroic leads would feel important if they were simply given real character depth. We have way more investment in Darque, Baron Samedi and a damn Monkey in a Top Hat so far then we do the lead character, and that continues to be the primary flaw of the book. Read Full Review

Justin Jordan continues to craft a solid second arc, with an excellent villain. The love that he has for the characters is what really sells this book. Neil Edwards is progressing during his stint on the book, and if he can get a bit more consistent with his art, Shadowman has the potential to be a sleeper hit. Read Full Review
