Calvin Poole survived the "Ghost War" in the Pacific, but he returns to America with a secret: He's now an American vampire like Skinner and Pearl! And when he travels to a small town in Alabama to see his brother, he learns he's not the only one with a secret. The 2-part tale"The Nocturnes," starts with incredible guest-artist Roger Cruz!
A wonderful issue that opens up some exciting new avenues for the AV story. The timing is great as well as we're about 2 years into the series. Just the right time to jiggle the status quo a little in case the readers were getting too comfortable. Read Full Review
Snyder twists the plot at the end, spinning the story on its head, giving Poole the shock of discovering something new and setting up a confrontation that demands more space than the next issue could possibly allow. Snyder also puts the question out there that's been lurking in my head since the beginning of the series, but at the risk of spoiling the finale, I'll just put it back in my noggin. This issue is quite the departure from the story Snyder has given us through twenty-five issues, but if there's one thing Snyder has proven time and again, things aren't always what they seem and connections are made quicker and more completely than readers of "American Vampire" can expect. Calvin spends the issue complaining of how over enough time it can be difficult to find something new. The story Snyder and Cruz put together ensure that he doesn't have to wait too long, which just so happens to make for a pretty darned good read. This issue definitely adds something new to the American Vampire universe, and you should give it a look. Read Full Review
