What eventually became the Vertigo line all started in 1984 with Alan Moore, Steve Bissette, and John Totleben's collaboration on these issues. Alan Moore's Saga of the Swamp Thing is an undeniable classic of modern comics. It's a creative run that absolutely should be read by all. That said, I can't wholeheartedly recommend this hardcover as a means of doing so. $25 isn't a bad deal for a 9-issue hardcover. However, I would have gladly paid an extra $10 or $15 for a true deluxe treatment, one with oversized pages, improved coloring, bonus material, and a dust jacket that doesn't make me want to wretch. If you already have the trade paperbacks, I see little reason to upgrade. However, if you've never ventured into the swamps before, Saga of the Swamp Thing, Book 1 is a suitable starting point. I don't care how you experience this story as long as you do it one way or another. Read Full Review
