The introduction of a new character is always a welcome passage for a book, but when she is a heartbreaking heroine like Mary Medina, the joy and sorrow of such an introduction leaves one with mixed feelings. This new blood to Arcane Acre may add more chaos to an already tumultuous concoction of teenage angst and mistrust, but it can also lead to a path for the new pupil on how to best use her gifts. Grimm Fairy Tales #114 is an easy comic to grade because the creative team did exactly what they needed to and just a bit more. By yielding straight forward dialogue and a wealth of illustrativeworth that wants to ask “do you remember magic?” they ultimately leave me with plenty of reasons to recommend this piece of fiction. Originally, I kind of dismissed this long running Grimm book, preferring its one shot/mini series brethren. I am glad to say that Shand is winning me over. This may not be a world changing book, but the writing is enjoyable and the art is nice to look at. Surely everyone has space in their reading for a book like that? Read Full Review
