While The Backseat Killer may attempt to present a compelling narrative within the chilling confines of Grimm Tales of Terror, it falls drastically short due to a misleading synopsis that presents expectant readers with one haunting scenario, then at the last minute changes the presentation for something that is sadly predictable and too dependent on true crimes and clichd horror tropes, attempting to cheaply dramatize the suffering of real victims for the entertainment of an exasperated audience. Even the normally respectable artwork and colors fall short within this tedious spectacle, with forced expressions and exaggerated visuals made dreary due to muted tones, but as exhausted readers become adjusted to these unusual depictions, they do project something mildly emotive, and only as we near the conclusion can we chuckle at the misery of a dejected criminal.
