(Review in Action Comics #848)
In part 2 of the 2-part "Redemption" storyline, Superman is about to become mankind's doom! The real control behind the power Superman has been fighting is revealed, and Superman will need help from an unexpected place in order to stop this dangerous new threat!
Superman is an ideal vessel for this kind of story. It goes out of its way to challenge how people view faith and morality, and does so without antagonizing religion. I appreciate when a comic can be this bold with its themes, so huge credit to Nicieza for executing so well on this premise.
In part 1 of the 2-part "Redemption" storyline, Superman travels the world from the wilds of Colorado to the plains of Africa to battle an uncontrollable power who draws their energy from an unbelievable source!
It's Dwayne McDuffie writing Superman. Need I say more?
In this companion issue to the "Last Son" storyline, Ma and Pa Kent discuss the disappearance of Superman during his battle with General Zod. Pa recalls an adventure he and Superman had years ago involving a trip they took together deep into space - and their frightening encounter with a Sun-Eater!
From start to finish, this book is fun, funny, and violent. All qualities worthy of the Main Man. Both Kyle Starks and Kyle Hotz are now on my radar.

A fun and inoffensive romp for Shang-Chi that works for one issue. I was entertained enough. I can see a bit of promise in CM Punk as a comic writer.
Shang-Chi's Day Off Part 1 (OF 1)
The Marvel Universe is full of fighters: brawlers, scrappers, weapons experts, mystical kung fu virtuosi. But there's only one martial artist skilled enough to be called the greatest. SHANG-CHI has been a pinch hitter for a long time, stepping in for Avengers missions when no one else would do, but when no one ...
Solid, fun little one-shot story for Shang-Chi. Nothing mind-blowing, but it definitely has me interested in seeing Alyssa Wong doing a mini.
Deadly Hands vs. Deadly Blades!
• Someone has been stealing artifacts of WMD potential.
• It's up to Shang-Chi to find this person and stop them.
• But is he prepared to go toe-to-toe with Lady Deathstrike?!
Parental Advisory
For a One World Under Doom tie-in, I'm not opposed to the pitch. Doom 2099 assembles a group of heroes to combat current-day Doom and prevent his future from happening. Cool. The problem is, Frank Tieri generally just isn't a great writer, so a cool idea like this ends up being wasted because of that. I like the characters they use, but they do nothing here for me. There's really nothing that stanmore
The Future is Doomed! The world is Doom's…but does that include the world that is yet to be? A coalition from the future - including OLD MAN LOGAN, RACHEL SUMMERS PHOENIX, BISHOP, COSMIC GHOST RIDER, THE MAESTRO and DEATHLOK say otherwise. But will the arrival of Doom 2099 change the odds for the new Sorcerer Supreme? Is he there to back his past...
This is the kind of quality that I've been missing from Bendis. It's such a stark contrast to his Superman, which was coming out around this time. The art by Nick Derington is great and dynamic. The guest stars make for fun surprises while serving their purpose to the story. It's pretty rare to see a globe-trotting Batman story, and this book does it a lot of justice.
In this story written by Brian Michael Bendis and illustrated by Nick Derington, Batman is pushed to his limit as he sets off in search of an item with incredible destructive powers-and embarks on a journey across the DC Universe! It's a race to the finish line as Batman chases the Riddler from Gotham to Gorilla City and beyond, with the fate of hu...
This embodies everything that Superman has always been about, and I'm glad Gene Luen Yang understood the assignment. Enough said.
The year is 1946, and the Lee family has moved from Chinatown to Downtown Metropolis. While Dr. Lee is eager to begin his new position at the Metropolis Health Department, his two kids, Roberta and Tommy, are more excited about being closer to the famous superhero Superman!
Tommy adjusts quickly to the fast pace of their new neighborhood, be...
As a fan of Tom King, this was the hardest of his other work for me to get into. The writing is still signature Tom King. I grew to like the titular Omega Men more upon re-reads. I feel Kyle Rayner could have been used as an audience surrogate, yet he doesn't have as big of a role as you'd expect from him being on the cover. The commentary is easily the standout part of this book. It's not subtle more
The Omega Men are back in an all-new series! They've murdered White Lantern Kyle Rayner, and now the universe wants them to pay! Who are these intergalactic criminals-and is there more to their actions than meets the eye? The entire, acclaimed 12-issue series is collected here!
EISNER WINNER KELLY THOMPSON AND BREAKOUT ARTIST HAYDEN SHERMAN REINVENT WONDER WOMAN FROM THE GROUND UP! Without the island paradise...without the sisterhood that shaped her...without a mission of peace...what's left is the Absolute Amazon!
Mariko Tamaki is generally a very hit-or-miss writer for me. This is far from her worst work, I can say I actually had some fun with this one upon first reading, but it has quite a few glaring issues. There are ideas here I enjoy, like putting Diana and Maxwell Lord in a buddy-cop situation, and a very intriguing concept for a rogue with Liar Liar. The name is admittedly not great, but she has a fmore
It’s a brand-new day for Wonder Woman! As Diana starts to pick up the pieces of her life following her battle with the Four Horsewomen, Man’s World has become more complicated to navigate than ever before. It seems everyone has a take on who Wonder Woman should be-some who look on her heroics with admiration, and some who lie in wait to seek re...
