Captain America: Steve Rogers #1 |
May 25, 2016 |
In the end, the book feels cheap. It's a safe bet that a lot of readers are going to feel this way, especially from a company that hasn't exactly been trustworthy with their prices and gimmicks of late (see CIVIL WAR II for more of that!). It's long, predictable, and worthy of more than a few rolls of the eyes. Captain America, arguably the most noble hero this side of the aisle for 7o years, has earned something better than this. |

Star Wars: The Force Awakens #1 |
Jun 23, 2016 |
It feels unfair to give a poor review to a book that probably wasn't meant to be amazing in the first place. Adapting a hit movie like STAR WARS is most likely an extremely difficult task. However, after reading its first issue, it feels pointless. If it can't capture the magical charm of the characters and setting that the film had, why read it? Unless you've never seen FORCE AWAKENS and have no idea who these characters are or what they're capable of, you're better off saving your money. |

All-New X-Men (2015) #8 |
Apr 13, 2016 |
With the coming “Apocalypse War,” it is safe to say this book is in store for a needed change. It is a shame that it takes an event to do so, but if Hopeless and company can remember the excellent roster of mutants at their disposal, the book can great again. |

Star Wars: Han Solo #1 |
Jun 15, 2016 |
It is an extremely difficult thing to adapt a STAR WARS juggernaut like Han Solo into his own series. Telling a story withoutstepping on any pre-existing canon toes is a major challenge. That being said, this comicleaves a lot to be desired. The bookleaves on an interesting note and could very well evolve into an intriguing story. However, it has its work cut out for it if it wants to be a worthy addition to the curent mythology. |

All-New X-Men (2015) #7 |
Mar 30, 2016 |
As stated before, this book needs to do more to stand out against the other X-titles Marvel is putting on its shelves. As seen in the previous issue, this book excels when it uses its diverse roster to its advantage. By staying away from the more convoluted plot points and centering on the characters, Hopeless and Bagley can hopefully make their book one to remember again. |

Captain America: Steve Rogers #2 |
Jun 29, 2016 |
Overall, this issue is a huge step up from the last. It works out the controversy of making Steve Rogers a villain while being entertaining. It's smart, somewhat sadistic, and lays the groundworkfor what could end up being an excellent conflict. Here's hoping it plays out better than it started. |

International Iron Man #1 |
Mar 17, 2016 |
The future of this comic is something that many fans will be eager to see. The groundworkhas been set for what could be a cool new twist on Tony's mythology, even if it feels a little unneeded at times. Until then, Bendis, Maleev, and company need to offer a little more to serve such an exciting character justice. |

International Iron Man #2 |
Apr 27, 2016 |
Overall, issue two is better than the first. The artwork is great; there are some fun character moments, and there is a lot of potential. If the book wants to get better, though, it will have to pick up the pace before readers pass out. |

Captain America: Steve Rogers #3 |
Jul 27, 2016 |
This book has been the subject of a lot of controversy. From its initial release, it flooded headlines and angered a lot of angsty comic book fans. Two issues later, one only needs to continue reading to see that it was all part of Spencer's master plan. It's an entirely new Captain America book, which may be what we need. Angry readers and plot twists aside, it's a great bit of fun for fans of Captain America. |

Old Man Logan (2016) #5 |
Apr 30, 2016 |
OLD MAN LOGAN is a great seriesandLemire and Sorrentino have proved that they know how to tell a good Wolverine story. However, this latest issue highlights a lot of problems the book had in the beginning and treads along at a slow pace, spending too much time recapping and not enough time moving forward. |

Civil War II: X-Men #1 |
Jun 16, 2016 |
It is possible that this is a more engrossing conflict than the flagship CIVIL WAR book. Beloved characters have a solid foundation for their argument, and there seems to bemore to it than a fist fight. Hopefully, the storytelling stays on par because, with some better panels, it could turn into a fantastic tie-in comic. |

International Iron Man #3 |
May 18, 2016 |
Overall, INTERNATIONAL IRON MAN 3 is its own worst enemy. It wants desperately to be about Tony's lineage, so much that it sacrifices what makes it great. Hopefully the book wraps up this short stint soon, and it's quite possible judging by the cliffhanger on the final page. While the characters and art are strong, and the book is a very entertaining read, the comic needs to sort out its few story problems if it wants to become a worthy entry into the Iron Man mythology. |

Weapon X (2017) #10 |

Old Man Logan (2016) #1 |
Jan 27, 2016 |
The story was fun to read, especially for fans of the original OLD MAN LOGAN run. However, it doesn't quite feel like anything revolutionary yet. It has a chance to fall into the rut of simply giving backstory to an old tale rather than telling a new one. Lemire and Sorrentino have the style to produce an engrossing book, but time will tell whether or not the story stands out among the rest. |

Star Wars: Darth Vader #23 |
Jul 21, 2016 |
It would seem DARTH VADER has faltered a bit in its last few issues. While the meat of the book is still well done, the potatoes seem to be a little undercooked. With just two issues left, the series could end on a high note or let its readers down. Considering this creative team, it is a safe bet it will be a finale to remember. |

Taylor, Takara, and the rest of the crew behind the book seem to be having a lot of fun with it, and that definitely shows in this issue. While it's not totally perfect or game-changing, it's simply a pleasant read with some fun characters. With a new story and a killer cliffhanger, it'll be a lot of fun to see where this one goes. |

Old Man Logan (2016) #2 |
Feb 10, 2016 |
OLD MAN LOGAN is close to greatness. While it is an impossible task to live up to the original run, this one is hitting the necessary beats to keep readers entertained. The small things could lead it to true greatness. For now, though, I'm more than happy to keep riding this train with Lemire and Sorrentino at the helm. |

All-New X-Men (2015) #9 |

Overall, the issue is a fantastic entry into Apocalypse War. While the last few issues of ALL-NEW X-MEN have been somewhat lackluster, this one picks up the pace regarding character and action. While the art may not be overly outstanding, it is still easy to call this book great. |

Civil War II: X-Men #2 |
Jul 6, 2016 |
CIVIL WAR II: X-MEN provides its own conflict outside of the flagship's disappointing argument. Whereas Tony Stark and Captain Marvel bicker back and forth, the X-Men fear for their own people's future at the hands of potential Inhuman manipulation. It hits all the character beats, never feels overcrowded, and looks pretty enough to keep on entertaining. Tie-ins rarely get as good as this. |

In a lot of ways, this should be the standard by all superhero books are made when trying to be fun and character-driven. It's got beautiful colors, an action-packed story, and brilliant dialogue that brings its characters emotion and personality. If the series sticks with this tone, it's going to be a while before anyone gets tired of it. |

Old Man Logan (2016) #8 |
Jul 14, 2016 |
This issue of OLD MAN LOGAN may feel slow to some, but it is precisely what the series needed. It grounded Logan once again in the current X-Men situation, developed his relationship with Jean, and put a smile on this reviewer's face unlike any other comic. This series continues to be brilliant, and Lemire and Sorrentino prove again why they are masters of the comic form. |

X-Men '92 (2016) #1 |
Mar 30, 2016 |
This issue is a greatreminder that comic books can be fun without being dark. The colorful characters decorate the pages of a book that is told from an optimist's point of view. Whatever threat is coming can be taken down with teamwork and determination. In an X-world dedicated to time travel and Phoenix Forces, X-MEN '92 finds a way to stand out by going back to the basics of what made the X-Men so popular in the first place. |

Old Man Logan (2016) #4 |
Apr 6, 2016 |
OLD MAN LOGAN proves that a sequel can be just as good as the original. By deviating from the original plan and taking Logan into a new direction, it's no longer a waiting game toward Logan's inevitable time-travel displacement. It's a new direction for the character altogether, spinning him along a path to glory in a new universe. Fans will be happy to see that, while not his young and spry self anymore, Wolverine is still in great hands. |

Old Man Logan (2016) #6 |
May 18, 2016 |
This series has really turned into something special. By taking Old Man Logan and making readers feel sympathetic while still driving the story forward, the creative team has found a way to make a book about Wolverine feel like Old Man Logan is the freshest character in the Marvel arsenal. It should be the standard to which all future teams look to when telling a story involving a character only slightly used. While most X-MEN books tend to lean toward the team-heavy stories with themes of family and prejudice, Old Man Logan feels like the GRAN TORINO of comics. It's all about an Old Man trying to do one last good thing with his life, no matter the cost. Thankfully for us, Lemire, Sorrentino, and company will be around to tell it. |

Old Man Logan (2016) #7 |
Jun 1, 2016 |
This series is shaping up to be a legendary run on Wolverine. OLD MAN LOGAN is the best X-Men book that Marvel is currently publishing, and maybe even one of the best book on the stands. By understanding the character's place in the new world and breaking him down, rather than having him save the day in every other issue, Lemire, Sorrentino & co. have crafted a book that makes all others seem unworthy. |

Star Wars: Poe Dameron #4 |
Jul 7, 2016 |
POE DAMERON #4 takes the series back to the ground level. Whereas the last issue got a little fantastical, this one brings the characters right back into the dirt. It's great to see a STAR WARS story about some of the “smaller” characters, and Soule and Noto don't let that go to waste. The issue is exciting, the characters are all easily lovable, and thereisn't a wasted panel in sight. There's never been a better time to be a STAR WARS comic fan. |
