Wood's vision, so far, has not been needed. He has not offered anything the established EU has not done better. However, two lacking issues dose not a story arch make. The sales have been good, so he has the time to fix the flaws.

The ending may as well not have been drawn or written. Vaders replacement, the bland and almost certainly not long for this world Colonel Bircher, gives a boring speech. Panels of the TIE Interceptors are shown, imperil pilot yelling "For the Empire," and then Colonel Bircher in a fancy, entirely red suit. Apparently the empire is not to be out done by new color schemes or pimped out gear. Go figure.

The issue ends with Leia reviving a covert mission, and rumors of a spy, from Rebel leader Mon Mothma (her presences also breaks the 1977 theme since she was not known during 1977). Wood's Star Wars is an interesting start to a familiar part of the universes past. Flawed layouts, exposition bloated dialogue, but a few bright spots, and the promise of better issues with the start of some interesting plot lines await.

Sweet Tooth ends well. It leaves us still with mystery around the Alaskan Gods, the nature of the start of the plague , the details at the end of Issue #39, Gus's relationship with Windy, etc. Room for more, if Lemire ever gets time, but also room for fans to wonder if he never does.
