Ten Grand #3

Jul 5, 2013

Finally, we have those last pages, focused on Laura, surrounded by beauty and intense light, which through Templesmiths unique style indeed seems heavenly. But suddenly she turns and sees a dark spot growing, a cancer in heaven and on the page. Demons ascend into what she thought was paradise, given a speed and ferocity few artists could provide, and drag her relentlessly down. The entire sequence is a perfect complement to the early flashback, showing the reader, and Laura, that no one is quite safe anywhere in the world of Ten Grand. Monsters, in human form or demon, lurk just around the corner. Cynical? Depressing? Sure. But damn fine reading.

The Green Hornet (2013) #3

Jul 3, 2013

Before he leaves, Kato accuses Britt Reid of acting like a god, casting thunderbolts from on high. I look forward to reading more of this series to see exactly how high Reid gets before his inevitable fall. I wonder who will cast the bolt that strikes him.

Lazarus #2

Jul 24, 2013

Lazarus #2 simultaneously expanded the world and also focused on character. Its a great issue that will without a doubt lay the foundation for the rest of the arc. I fully expect issue #3 to be explosive, and I, personally, cant wait.

The Owl #1

Jul 3, 2013

The Owl #1 is an effective, exciting book that sets up an engaging central mystery, and only suffers slightly from clich character and story. If the rest of the mini is at least as entertaining as this debut issue has been, I wouldn't be surprised if we find The Owl has turned into an ongoing series.

Sheltered #1

Jul 10, 2013

In the end, Lord of the Flies in the Snow with Guns and a Cult Leader with Sometimes Questionable Artistic Choices is one that I have faith will find itself as it continues, and I look forward to reading along.

Batwoman (2010) #22

Jul 24, 2013

I love everything about Kate Kane/Batwoman as a character, and the art on this book is some of the best. Its too bad #22 is such a let down. Heres hoping next months issue will be much better.

Ghosted (2013) #1

Jul 10, 2013

Ghosted could become a really great series, but all I see right now are the kernels of better ideas.
