Maybe I am being too hard on it, maybe I am just trying to find a way of explaining away how this series just isnt grabbing my attention but the short and skinny is that with every issue I pick up, I would rather be picking up the novels its biased upon.

The very short and skinny is that this was a fun quick read that was fun and silly, but pretty witty when it needed it.

The short and skinny is that this is a fun, if not deep read, that looks great.

The short and skinny is that although I am being a little hard on it, I did find this a good read. I really hope its sacrificing the interesting stuff for the sake of setting this world up, and has a bit more follow through when it comes to the rest of the series.

The short and skinny is that the series is ramping up on the writing and connections, still not a big fan of the art.

The short and skinny is that this is a campy fun romp in a sarcastic zombieland.

The short and skinny is that this is a well written, well paced issue, and the art offers a great setting, but lacks some when you get to the more intimate parts of the story.

The short and skinny is that its a neat book, with some good ideas, and well done art.

The short and skinny is that its a fun, nostalgic issue with all the fun of the 80s and then some.

The short and skinny is that this is a very cool idea behind a series of one shots, and I am getting excited just thinking of all the possibilities.

The short and skinny is that, even steeped in the past, with colors and set ups to further convey a dated feel, Mignola and company do a great job of keeping this character and issue relevant as well as interesting.

The short and skinny is that this issue was a great place to pick up a big series, and it has creepy and atmospheric to spare.

The short and skinny is that this is a book that is silly and fun on the surface, but has a lot more working for it underneath.

The short and skinny is that its still a fun book, that has a rich background with heavy investment in the time, place and people in it.

The short and skinny is that I am still just as interested in this series as I was in issue #1, great story, great setting gets a little weak with the art.

The short and skinny is that its a fun book, that looks fun and is over the top enough to never take itself too seriously.

The short and skinny is that this is a great read, with a dated feel and interesting world, but has the potential to go either very unique and interesting, or a variant of something seen before.

The short and skinny is that this third entry is as strong as the first two, and keeps me guessing as to what way they plan on going.

The short and skinny is, how bad can we make things without killing everyone? What event would give them a glimmer of hope in this situation? In the light of the event, how bad can we make things without killing everyone?

The short and skinny is that even at #114 The Walking Dead is just as strong as ever.

This review was written while listening to How to Destroy Angels " Welcome Oblivion, which in its weird way fit the tone of this issue very well. Its very much an extension of Trent Reznor And Atticus Ross'swork on The Social Network and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and having female vocals added too the mix (Karen O not withstanding) is a great touch on this moody and atmospheric album. Give it a shot!

The writing in its own right does its fair share of setting the time and tone, the characters and the conversations they have feel real, and I feel they reflect the time well, with enough contemporary language as to not feel like a dated radio show (as much as I love them, the old radio shows were hella cheesy). Each character has enough attitude to be interesting, but not so much as to not be able to function in society, as well as having enough darkness to each of them, that nothing feels black and white. I really do look forward to seeing how this plays out, everyone in this book feels like they have an agenda, whether explicitly stated or not, and I want to see to what ends they will go to.

The only thing I would like to see changed is the female stars represented as well as the men are. Give me Grace Jones, Cynthia Rothrock, Madonna, and Brigitte Nielsen going on their own rampage. The short and skinny is that I had a lot of fun with the book, in the same way I have fun with Toxic Avenger, Army Of Darkness and Red Hot American Summer. Go read it!

The short and skinny is that this issue blew my fragile little mind with a very different approach to an origin story, that is a fun and fantastic read.

The short and skinny is that its a very well written, and generally well executed book, that I found very captivating.

The short and skinny is that this is a fine return to some good action in the series, and I can't wait to see where it goes.
