Humbert and his police force face off against Robert's militia in the Grass Kingdom.
It's brilliant. Deeply layered personal grudges and past hurts, mixed with mysterious killings and disappearances, all contained in a Kingdom not recognized by any government. This is an HBO quality mini-series, with some of the best art you can find. Read Full Review
I'm loving the book and this issue continues the enjoyment I get out of this series. Reading along with the art from Tyler Jenkins plays out as picking up a long lost piece of folk-lore. I didn't mind the overall pacing, building the tension leading up until the confronation of the two towns. We're gaining more of connection to the main characters and towns people. Which will help pay off, making that anticapted scene more impactful. Now that we've gotten a grasp of the residents at Grass Kingdom, Maria is a character I'd like spotlighted more. Since arrival to Grass Kindgom, she's caused the long awaited war between the two towns to possibly breakout. But I trust in the direction Matt Kindt will take this story. Read Full Review
Easily the best issue of the series so far, Grass Kings #4 makes all the slower moments worth it. Nothing too major may have happened yet but the gauntlet has been thrown and shit is about to go down. And while we're looking at a possibly climactic showdown in the next issue between the Grass Kingdom and Sheriff Humbert's people, the mysteries laid out in this issue lay out an even larger conflict that undoubtedly will keep the story moving forward no matter what happens. Similar to Bigg Lands I could easily see this becoming a television series of some sort or returning with more mini-series. The cast here is wide and we are just getting to know who many of them are. With the conclusion coming I doubt much more development will occur. Perhaps it will asMatt Kindt has shown he favors telling a good story over filling a book with mindless action. Read Full Review
As far as slow-burners go, few books simmer better than Grass Kings. Building his story from the characters out, Matt Kindt's latest at last begins to deliver on the complex relationships he's so meticulously crafted. Read Full Review
Grass Kings has been a very interesting series so far with dream like art work from Jenkins and some very strange story and plotting, but great character work from Kindt it is definitely something that is not to be missed. Read Full Review
"Grass Kings" is a great series that could easily be a television series. The characters are well defined and have the depth that readers can attach themselves to almost immediately. Kindt and Jenkins should be very proud of this series, and readers who aren't reading this " they should. Read Full Review
"Grass Kings" feels like it has been on a slow boil that looks to erupt into violence...that is certainly the sense here. Kindt is doing a good job building the suspense, assisted by flashbacks that add to the growing sense of uneasiness. Tyler Jenkins' art is also rough, sketchy, and fantastic looking. This is a good book.
