I am generally a fan of comic books of the superhero variety and mostly of the big two publishers (though I have been branching out). This is the book I look forward to the most right now. If I could recommend just one new book from a smaller publisher it would be Slam! This book is beautiful, honest, and compelling. Reading this book I can't help but want to join a Roller Derby team myself. I don't think there are any slots for a balding, middle aged, family man but if anyone has any leads shoot me an email. Slam! continues to impress me with its charm and its wit. The characters have already been incredibly fleshed out after just two issues. The dynamic between Jenifer and Maise is what really makes this comic work. They laugh, they fight, they help each other and they let each other down. Derby fans, you're going to love this series. It doesn't glorify Roller Derby as much as it does rationalize it. We don't just see the excitement of the competition; we see the practices, the background and personal lives of the skaters, and more. I'm loving this duel life thing. It's a great to see two perspectives. I love the ending though that would be so me. And the art of Vish and Peer were made for a book like this. Read it. You'll enjoy it.
