Ice King #6, and the series overall, is okay. This final issue just sort of ends and while it does bring the plot to the conclusion the pacing of it just feels a little off, too abrupt. It builds to a climax and then just sort of ends. It was kind of enjoyable but it really did feel like it had the same charm of the cartoon series and feels a little bit hollow. |

It's hard to get a good grasp on Assassin's Creed: Locus. It has many aspects that make it seem like it cold have good character moments, it doesn't seem to relief too heavily on the games so it will be easy to read. At the same time, it is only for issues and with its current pacing I fear it will simply end before it has a chance to explore its potential. |

The first half of Batgirl: Rebirth #1 is a fun story that let's you get to see more of Barbra than of Batgirl, but when she slips into that cowl that's when it gets really silly. It never explains how both she and Fruit Bat had the time to get changed into their elaborate costumes. Her friend gets attacked and in less than half a minute Barbra ditches her backpack and slips into her costume. If only I could get ready so fast in the mornings. |

BOOM! Box Mix Tape #2016
Dec 9, 2016 |
There were a few other shorts that should get a mention in this as well, Anna Strain's Holiday Cards, Musical Tattoo Flash by Adam X Vass and Love Notes by Sam Davies. The only reason I didn't go into a lot of detail on these ones is they are so short that talking about them could spoil them and I wanted to avoid spoilers in this review so when you read it you get the full experience. If you are looking for something fun and easy, or maybe a stocking filler for someone this comic is perfect. Each story is short, there is something for all ages but none of them are too adult or too childish. BOOM! Box Mix Tape 2016 is such a fun little comic that I implore you to go read it. It is pure, feel-good reading and sometimes we just need a little happiness in our lives. |

Compared to some of the previous issues of Giant days that I have this one seems a lot darker with its subject matter, or perhaps that is just my reading of it. Gold Key Alliance #4
Jul 18, 2016 |
I was enjoying Gold Key Alliance up until this point. There is just something about this issue that has rubbed me the wrong way. I liked the idea of the characters having visions of what could be the other worlds. But the previous issues hinted that the four were going to have to team up to work together, and now we find out that they are, but not even on the same Earth. And that the villain that was alluded to in the first issue isn't even the real villain but just a decoy as well. I'm hoping there will be something special with the four – otherwise what is the point of them in this sea of infinite versions, including one from a universe of centaurs? |

If you were hoping for Gold Key Alliance to be an exciting cross over with some of your old favourite comic heroes, then you'll be disappointed. If you were thinking Gold Key Alliance could kickstart a new, modern-day version of these heroes in a shared universe then you would be wrong. If you were looking for an anticlimactic series that spends a bunch of time focusing on four characters, just to leave them all behind and effectively end the multiverse and stop any and all idea of continuation of these characters until it is eventually reconnected then here you go, this is for you. It has some cool scenes let down by a flimsy, borderline pointless plot. |

It's hard to really say ifIntertwined is good or bad just now. Its set up seems to be like some sort of modern-day Avatar: The Last Airbender and this issue is just so much set-up that there is almost no real plot. We get things happening to Juan that move the story along, but as to any idea where it is going other than involving the elements, we don't get many clues, so this issue isn't perhaps the best judge of the series and depending on how they branch out from here will really help define this series. As of this issue it seems to be something that has a lot of potential and while there isn't much plot, Juan is a strong enough character that his slice of life adventure sets a good pace for the first issue. |

Lone Ranger / Green Hornet #1
Jul 6, 2016 |
Overall there isn't really a lot I can say about this comic. A lot of it was just the Ranger talking about his heyday and having flashbacks to his old adventures in large spread pages that just stopped any sort of plot advancement to set the scene. We got next to no development on the Green Hornet. It is as if the series expects you to just know who he is while at the same time having no idea who the Lone Ranger is. The story is pretty clich and riddled with almost cringe worthy dialogue. It is set in an alternate reality, or at least it has to be without being a bit insensitive but relies on real-world villainy and stops just before it gets exciting. |

I have been a little too negative in this review of Lumberjanes Gotham Academy #2 though. The comic isn't bad, it is actually fairly funny and entertaining. The comedy is nothing great, perhaps even a little clich at points but it still drove a chuckle out of me. It is actually entertaining and as supernatural mysteries go it seem to have the right idea, it is giving us just enough that we know whats going on but not exactly why and how. It's an enjoyable read that while not the most exciting story or visually impressive serves as a good distraction and works for all ages. got |

Lumberjanes / Gotham Academy #3
Aug 10, 2016 |
There isn't too much that can really be said about this issue of Lumberjanes Gotham Academy. The whole issue is very slow-paced and exists just to give the villain a tragic back story that is not even slightly tragic. It feels like we are meant to feel pity for her then she really needs a worse life. The style of humour of this issue is an odd one. Both visually and tonally it seems to be a series aimed at children yet at the same time is filled with 80s pop-culture references. This issue seems really hard to place this issue. It adds a lot to the villain's story, but the appeal of this series is the two groups interacting. So with this issue where it expands on a villain that's new to both series, it just seems to conflict with that appeal. |

While a fun read, I know I wasn't this comic's target audience. For a start I wasn't familiar with either Lumberjanes or Gotham Academy before this. This plot is very thin, and not too challenging. While funny, many of the jokes felt too shallow for me. If you were looking for a good comic that works as an entry comic for a younger audience, then this would work. They might be confused by all the characters at first, and perhaps a second read might make it easier. Then, if they get hooked, going into the main series of both comics would probably help them enjoy this one even more. |

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #4 is an issue that shows that this series is going from strength to strength. It is able to use the old Power Rangers mythos and tell a story that is both familiar yet feels fresh. The art is very enjoyable and complements it well. While the story does seem to be a little repetitive with the ‘can the trust the Green Ranger?' story, what is around that is enjoyable enough you can forgive them for taking their time with the plot. |

Power Rangers is doing a good job of rebooting the series and telling a familiar story while keeping it fresh and good looking. It's interesting enough that it could easily appeal to fans or newcomers interested after all the recent news about the movie coming out. The pacing of this issue really doesn't help it and feels a little like a filler issue. Yes, it gives us some back story, but after leaving on a cliff hanger, more plot would be nice. There is a Bulk and Skull issue at the end of this issue too that seems pointless. It's full of references that only watchers of the original will get and yet the jokes are so dull that I'm not even sure children would find them funny.. |

With cool actions scenes, a dark, somewhat depressing tone, Mighty Morphing Power Rangers continues to be a startling, modern remaining of Power Rangers. The story moves at a fast pace and not pages feel wasted or to stretch out the story. Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: Pink #1
Jun 1, 2016 |
If you weren't sure why the Pink Ranger was getting her own solo series or think that she didn't need one, then you really need this. It's the perfect mix of nostalgia while updating it to be more modern and serious. This new version is a breath of fresh air for fans of the original series who could struggle to watch it with how cheesy it can be. Kimberly is a great female hero in this. She has so much agency, she takes charge and jumps head first into battle. She is both emotional but calm enough to plan ahead and fight smart. If you don't know much about the Mighty Morphin Power Ranger mythos, there might be a few things that get a little lost on you, but you should be able to catch on fairly easy. Power Rangers: Pink is just a great ride from start to finish and a perfect first issue to launch this mini solo series. |

Power Rangers: Pink is in a rather unfortunate trend where its story is getting a little too convoluted and slows it down, yet at the same time the pacing is so fast that the story just seems a little all over the place and poorly paced. There are a lot of coincidences for the Rangers and they seem to be incredibly lucky, with things happening very conveniently for them. Also, how does Kimberly keep recognising her mum who is now a giant fish monster that looks like all the other giant fish monsters? That is her real talent right there. |

Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: Pink #5
Dec 21, 2016 |
I really enjoyed the art of the issue as well, though some of it was hard to see. There are many wide shots of the Rangers going against the evil Zord to show to scale of the ordeal that they have to overcome. Thankfully my review copy is in a digital format for zooming. The designs on the Rangers really stands out in one panel where they are depicted against the original costumes. The design choices for Pink are still my favourite part of the whole series. I'm both excited and sad for the next issue. With Pink ending it will be a shame to see a close to this lovely miniseries; at the same time though, it has been wonderful and the set up for the final issue seems great. Pink is a great addition to the ever-growing Power Rangers comic bookworld. |

Swords of Sorrow #3 is certainly an interesting issue. It isn't a bad issue but it does suffer slightly from release schedules. It's a half way point in the story but it doesn't feel like it. With characters coming together and awkwardly saying each others names because there is a good chance a reader might never have heard of them. With a lot of set up for the coming issues and raising some questions with potentially silly answers. It'll get better once the following issues are out and its gets resolved, it's just as this issues stands it panders around with no real pay off and feels very padded out just to make it last 6 issues. A good, fun action piece with very little in the way of story as it is meant to set up for the main Swords of Sorrow series. Enjoyable if you've been following the rest of the series. |

A strong series with two good main characters, a good solid read that isn't too bogged down by the events of others in the series. |

A decent issue for a decent series, though the ending leaves a lot to be desired. Could really have done with more time and showing off the main characters more. |

In a vacuum it would be a decent start to a series, but this is a one shot that just does what every other spin off of the main series does and doesn't really add anything to it as a whole. |

A more light hearted approach to the slightly repetitive narrative of Swords of Sorrow. The comedy however feels forced and shows different doesn't mean good. |

A fun series that is slightly darker in tone with its sister spin offs, lots of action and some light gore make it a good read to kill sometime with. |

A good start to a series, if a little clich. Has a lot of potential to be a great story. Art can be a little niche and may be an acquired taste. |
