Artist Hendry Prasetyas blend of the artwork between the monsters, the humans, and the robots is in perfect balance with no one aspect falling short of the others. As a bit of an ending to what was essentially the first major arc of the book, ignoring the previous arc of mostly set up, I thought that this issue delivered in several ways. It’s good to see Billy playing to his strengths of intelligence and critical thinking, all the buildup to the main confrontation with what ends up being the Black Dragon’s shell pays off as the Rangers are forced to use their brains instead of their powers, and it was nice to see the two Rangers who currently are without powers be the ones to really make a difference. I’ve been really enjoying the series so far, and this issue is no exception. From what we saw at the end of this issue, it looks like what is yet to come is just as exciting. Read Full Review

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #9 is a strong installment, though one can't help but think it could have been stronger. Kyle Higgins dials up the drama to a fever pitch before ultimately taking things in a different direction, resulting in a bit of setup that's as frustrating as it is intriguing. Hendry Presetya makes the most of his pages, but his contribution too falls just short of greatness. With a strong ending hook and even stronger art, this uneven issue is still a worthy read. Conclusion: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers continues to be a great read that goes beyond what the original show ever was. I enjoy where the story line is going and how it is breaking away from the tv show. I would like a little more downtime with the characters so they could be fleshed out more, but with so few pages and a back up story thrown in a can see where this is hard to do. MMPR is a fun book that will draw readers in just for nostalgia purposes but the story and art will keep them coming back because its an all around good comic book. Read Full Review

I've only read this issue of the Power Rangers series, but it was entertaining and I never felt too out of the loop. Definitely not a self-contained story but keeps a good pace. This may have not been the best jumping on point. So if you're a fan of the series, love the campiness and don't mind picking up some back issues. The problem with this issue is that it, while needed, it serves the poor purpose of being a set-up for the next issue. It is one of those ones where they needed the time and the pages to set everything up for you wanting more, but you know what is coming next is going to be better than the exposition chapter. You need the set-up for the pay-off and this issue certainly leaves you wanting that pay-off. Read Full Review
