Abe's journey takes a new turn as he meets a twisted couple in this rural horror story of a domestic relationship gone terribly awry.
This issue shows that comic books can have different kinds of story and different ways to tell them. Told without actual dialogue, we get a pretty powerful story involving Abe Sapien. After big cataclysmic events in comics, we don't often see how it affects the everyman and what they go through afterwords. Mignola and Allie do just that. The story takes a slightly dark path and there will be some surprises that just might catch you off guard. Max Fiumara's art with Dave Stewart's colors complete the vibe and atmosphere the story requires. It's not often a comic can deliver this kind of emotion. The story might be a little off-putting but it's definitely something you should check out. Don't miss this issue. Read Full Review
Again, hands down this is the best issue of the series and really a great standalone issue to enjoy. Even if you didn't come back for the next issue I would still recommend reading this issue just for it's incredible storytelling, both writing and art. Read Full Review
Abe Sapien #12 is an easy comic to grade, because the creative team has crafted something that's not perfect but it stands tall as a singular reason to checkout this title. For that reason this release is a must own. Read Full Review
Even if you dont have much familiarity with the Dark Horse regulars of Hellboy or BPRD, Id highly recommend giving “Abe Sapien #12″ a look. This is a very smart comic from Mike Mignola and company. Im excited to see the depths of humanity Abe Sapien explores next. Read Full Review
This issue is a standalone story but I do believe that we will learn more about the unknown woman later on. This really is a terrific issue and I’m excited about the direction the series is taking. This is one of the most suspenseful stories I’ve read in while with just enough flashes of violence to probably give me nightmares tonight! I can’t wait for the next issue. Read Full Review
There is little to nothing to take from the issue going forward, as expected from a filler issue; but that does not mean it is not worth reading. It is a superbly written, drawn and inked comic that resonates emotionally with adult readers. Abe Sapien being granted his own ongoing series (at long, long last) has lived up to expectation and Abe's journey, reminiscent of Kane in Kung Fu, has so far been a joy to read. This issue continues the strong work Mignola, Allie and Fiumara have been providing monthly and is one of the best so far; despite its detachment from Abe's long running goal. Read Full Review
I'm evaluating this one in a vacuum, as a complete standalone, not as a part of a larger story. With that in mind, I loved this issue. It was masterful from start to finish. Everyone involved has thrown their all into it and it shows. The damn thing even had me tearing up at one point. And since reading it, it has only grown on me. Read Full Review
Not a book for newer visitors to the series, this issue serves as a bridge between stories, but is a wonderful and fulfilling story in its own right that will be welcomed by fans of the series. Read Full Review
While Abe Sapien #12 was quite a departure from recent developments, this was nonetheless a thoroughly enjoyable installment that was superbly crafted in every respect. Read Full Review
Abe Sapien is one of Dark Horse’s best series at the moment, the variety of encounters are making each issue fell different and most of all engaging. Although not the perfect jumping on point, this issue will give you a great insight into what to expect from the world of Abe. Read Full Review
While this is a good issue featuring quality art and writing, there is not much Abe. Really it focuses on 2 random characters and what they have gone through. In that regard it is Excellent! But i'm reading "Abe Sapien" for Abe Sapien, not for the characters he meets along the way. I also still dislike how Abe is written as stupid. What would he ever think he can wander around a terrified world without being shot or attacked?? I'm on board for the long term, but i hope they get back to sensible activity and development for Abe.
