I have spent most of the review looking at this as a jumping on point for new readers, but for all you Abe fans out there do not worry the creators did not water the story down you still get a great Abe tale. Abe Sapien #13 is an easy comic book to review because the creative team has crafted an outing that begs for compliments. It never rises to the point where it feels like a turning point or key issue but, more often than not, it echoes with intent while continuing its consistent stride. Recommended. Read Full Review

As Abe Sapien starts a new arc, with a new companion; the story telling is as stellar as ever from Mignola and Allie as is the art work and color from Fiumara and Stewart. My new local retailer tells me it doesn't sell so he has cancelled his order; something I prey is not common for comic stores across the globe as I, along with many Abe fans, have been thoroughly enjoying the series so far and expect it to continue its level of brilliance for as long as Dark Horse is willing and able to publish it. So, if you are not reading Abe Sapien, please do! This is the book Mignola and Dark Horse want you to jump onto, so give it a chance! It won't disappoint. Read Full Review

Overall, this was a good issue with a lot to get your teeth into. However, I would have scored it much lower if not for the back-up story, which manages to elevate this book above simply providing the usual thrill of watching the writing team of Mignola and Allie continuing to shine. This issue is also special because it has a short story at the end of Abe in days past, this maybe short but it is sweet and reinforces the caring side of him that has been prevalent throughout theseries. Abe Sapien 13 is billed as a "Starting Point for New Readers," and while it is a strong tale that starts a new story line, it's not quite as new reader friendly as it could have been. It requires a certain amount of foreknowledge of Hellboy and B.P.R.D. to really be understandable to new readers. Despite that issue, this was a solid story with great art and a solid backup tale drawn by Guy Davis. Recommended. Read Full Review

This was a much darker issue of Abe Sapien, but as always, executed very well. While the overall plot of this title has taken a slight pause, this was definitely an enjoyable installment. This also may have been one of the best looking books in the series so far. Read Full Review
