The story can be amazing in a comic book, but if the art isnt what I like, I lose interest in a book. That is not what happens here. The story thus far is amazing. The art is beautiful. The art really takes you inside the story. It really has the horror movie feel to it. I cannot wait until the next issue. I want to see who was behind that sealed door. Read Full Review
Suffice to say, I was strongly and pleasantly surprised by StarCraft: Scavengers #1. While I was expecting a sci-fi heavy space story with lots of alien battles and flights through the stars, I instead got a claustrophobic, character-driven journey through an Alien inspired derelict ship full of haunted house style horrors. There is no need to be familiar with the video game franchise to gain maximum enjoyment out of this story, and that might just be writer Jody Houser's greatest achievement. It's a wide-open welcome mat for anyone who enjoys a good space scare and with the strong characterization coupled with some great artwork, Dark Horse comics has a winner on their hands! Good science fiction setting with well-rounded characters. A great glimpse into other parts of the StarCraft Universe. Read Full Review
That said, at the end of the day, this first issue provides a little sci-fi, a little horror, and a cracking cliffhanger that promises a lot from the series as it unfolds. It's a decent first issue with some problems setting it back from being the best it could be. It's a book that nails tone and atmosphere but needs character development badly. If you're a fan of StarCraft, you'll enjoy what's given here, but if not you may want to wait to see what issue 2 brings first. Read Full Review
"Starcraft: Scavengers" #1 is a visually beautiful debut that narratively feels a little too familiar. Read Full Review
Starcraft: Scavengers #1 didnt blow me away by any means, but it is a competent story that would likely give some joy to a devotee of the franchise. I can recommend it if youre hurting for some sci-fi or a Starcraft story. Beyond that demographicwell, it wouldnt be the worst use of your time, but I wouldnt call it required reading.
