The boys mull over Eddie's offer, hesitant to join a new campaign without Will and El. As Eddie does his best to inspire Mike, Lucas, and Dustin to join the Hellfire Club in the present, the past holds a glimpse of the legendary campaign that got him hooked on playing D&D. Eddie and the original Hellfire crew add a new teammate to help take on a vicious Manticore that nearly wiped out their party the first time. But both in the past and present Eddie proves there is strength in numbers.
This series could easily be just a run of the mill prequal story. However, thanks to an interesting story well told and immersive art to go with it, this series is quickly becoming a must read for anyone who loves either Stranger Things or Dungeons & Dragons. Read Full Review
Plot
This installment shows constant flashbacks and flashforwards between 1978 and 1985.
In 1985, Mike tries to convince Lucas and Dustin to decline Eddie's invitation to join the Hellfire Club and play Dungeons & Dragons (D&D). Mike argues that the game ended when Will moved away from Hawkins, because they all played one last game, bringing closure to all their characters' stories.
But Eddie has a lot of experience saying goodbye to friends, and in just a year, he managed to form a close-knit D&D gaming group, with some of whom he even formed a rock band, all of whom have since left Hawkins.
Eddie's memory sequences illustrate in detail those epic battles they played in a living room.
