Even though I keep considering dropping the Batman Confidential series from my pull list, DC ends up delivering stories that I find engaging, and The Bat and The Beast is no exception. Tight writing, solid art, and the modern day reintroduction of a cold war villain earns Batman Confidential #31 4 out of 5 Stars. Read Full Review

Back when "Legends of the Dark Knight" shed its original "very early stories of Batman" mandate, I remember being sad to see that idea go. Once it became clear that the quality of the stories wasn't going anywhere, though, it actually ended up being a good thing, freeing up the creators to tell all sorts of good Batman adventures. As of issue #31, Milligans story seems uninteresting and uninspiring. However, the story could pick up and become great. Perhaps this will best read in one bulk, but since this series is not consistently collected in trade, it may not even be worth the hassle. The pretty pictures and the Guillem March cover cannot distract from the poor quality of this arc, so I wouldnt pick this up just yet. If the story improves then you might want to think about getting interested. Read Full Review
