A great start to a new phase in DC's He-Man franchise, and I hope that it sticks around for a good while! Read Full Review
In terms of He-Man, this is not something that has really been seen before, almost being like a post-apocalyptic version of the He-Man universe. The mechanics behind the story are novel and the characters are used almost to their full potential. Those that consider He-Man to be not refined enough for their tastes will instead find a fusion of fantasy and sci-fi here that is as innovative as anything that exists on the market. This is just the first issue of a series focusing on this alternate reality for the characters, but all signs point to something fun and worthwhile in the end. Read Full Review
Really the only people that will be reading this will be He-Man fans and they should love the new takes on the characters and the places that this war will lead us in the future. If a random reader happens to pick this up they'll probably be confused but the amount of exposition here should give them a pretty decent crash course into the world of Eternia and He-man, so while you'll want a little background in this He-Man, it doesn't completely alienate new readers either. It's setup people as you should know it would be and the things Abnett is setting up just makes me drool in anticipation. Check it out for the grand design that's been getting setup for the last year in He-Man and for the masterful art by Pop Mhan......... This should be a fun ride. Read Full Review
He-Man: The Eternity War is an exciting start to a new series that seems like a great continuation from the previous series, but may leave new readers guessing as to what may have come before like it did for me. Although it doesn't cater to the new reader as much as it could (and probably should as a #1 issue), the story was still enjoyable and includes plenty of the property's most compelling characters and ideas. Time to scour those back issue bins to catch up on all that I've missed. Read Full Review
He-Man: The Eternity War #1 could be the start of something pretty cool down the line. Even though Dan Abnett's first script falters despite an interesting premise, there is still promise to be found. Nostalgia can be a funny thing, so much so, that I could have gotten more out of this comic had I completely given into it upon first reading it. That said, I don't want a comic to sustain itself only on the feelings generated by my prior feelings for the property. That's what He-Man: The Eternity War #1 feels like; a great premise hindered by set characterizations. Thankfully, this is only the first issue, and there is nowhere to go from here but up. The Eternity War has all the scope you'd hope for from such a moniker. He-Man and She-Ra lead a ragtag band of Masters and Snake-Men against the seemingly unstoppable Hordak. Unfortunately, this issue doesn't do enough to build from that initial setup. Read Full Review
"He-Man: The Eternity War" #1 is a great setup. It doesn't rise much above that, but it paves the way for an exciting series to come. Read Full Review
