And the art so perfectly suits the book. This is an ugly story of madness and the art by Keith Giffen and Bill Sienkiewicz is beautifully ugly as well. I have been reading comics for a long time and have seen it all. I relish whenever there is a moment which utterly shocks me, which makes me completely reverse the way I was thinking. This book did that in a gut-wrenching way. I can give it no higher praise. Read Full Review

This issue was not what I expected--though I'm not sure what I did expect. I've enjoyed these one-shots...both the 2008 series and the current one. This issue is a worthy addition to the bunch, and well worth checking out if you're interested in the creative team, the Mad Hatter himself, Batman rogues, or simply a tale of a not-so-heroic character. You won't gain any new insight into the Mad Hatter in this one shot, but it provides everything you do need to know about him. By focusing on what makes him such a madman, Walker gives an easy reference point for the character, and the combination of Giffen and Sienkiewicz on the art reflects the writing perfectly. For me, even though this is one of Batman's rogues that I truly enjoy, this issue fell flat. I do really like the look into the mind of the Mad Hatter, but it wasn't enough. I'd say pass on this no matter how much you love the Asylum series or the Mad Hatter. It's not a bad comic by any means, but it isn't very good either. Read Full Review
