McDuffie and Van Sciver craft this done-in-one Justice League story with care to characterization that flourishes among a simple plot that turns on the grease of a villain with a rational motive for committing the crime. They do this also without mimicking the Cartoon Network's Justice League. This is not the Wally West or Diana from that show. These are characters from a different continuity. One more thought on the art before we wrap things up: if Ethan Van Sciver wasn't immediately placed alongside the biggest artistic names in mainstream comics following the Sinestro Corp War special, than I think it's safe to do so after his equally phenomenal work in this issue. McDuffie's script doesn't give Van Sciver any of the same types of bombastic, high-octane scenes that made up the majority of the Sinestro Corp War, but by focusing squarely on the Flash, the artist is able to nonetheless make this book a visual feast from start to finish. This just might be one of my shortest reviews ever. The fact is that I don't have much to say because Justice League of America #20 is such an anemic read that there really isn't much to comment on. After I finished reading this issue I felt like DC had just robbed me of $2.99. Read Full Review

When you consider that one member of this book was transferred off the team in an entirely different comic (Geo-Force's removal in "Batman and the Outsiders"), it really makes you wonder what the heck is going on behind the scenes with "Justice League of America". A recent interview with McDuffie mentioned that he's planning stories about Red Tornado's body and then Vixen's powers next, and all I could think was, that hopefully this meant "Justice League of America" was no longer going to be a dumping ground for other people's storylines and promotional events. (Although I can't help but notice that both are also dangling subplots left behind by Meltzer.) This should be the flagship of DC Comics' line; it's the highest-selling monthly series from the publisher, after all. Let's give it (and McDuffie's talents) a little more respect, please?
