In the remains of New Krypton, Doomsday tears through Batman, Supergirl and Alpha Lantern Boodikka in his search for Cyborg Superman.
Another thing that I have liked about Robinson's League has been that they are fighting huge threats, dealing with the major players that the JLA is supposed to. Here they are fighting two at once. Eclipso and Doomsday are top tier villains. We'll have to see how this split League deals with them. The only downside to the issue was the 'too easy' appearances of Boodika and Saint Walker. They felt forced, there more to move the story in a direction than to actually have a reason for being there. Brett Booth's stuff really sizzles here. The battle sequences have a nice kinetic feel with a stylized and detailed feel. I hope he remains on the book for a while. Read Full Review
Eclipso and his gang of shadow-powered cronies goes after Jade and the magical city on the Moon. Just as Doomsday shows up, attacking the JLA and the Green Lantern Corps.The story is a bit unwieldy, dealing with two different threats simultaneously. While there may be a connection between Doomsday and Eclipso, we don't see it. Instead, it looks like the League just happened to get hit from two sides at the exact same time. That isn't necessarily a bad thing as it shows how the team would deal with more than one threat at a time. It also helps that Robinson is one of the few remaining writers who still uses narrative captions. We really need these captions explaining what is going on since the art is a bit lacking in this area. The small panels and vague backgrounds often make it hard to tell when the setting of the story has changed, so we can't immediately tell that Supergirl's battle with Doomsday is actually taking place many miles from Eclipso's invasion.The story still could have Read Full Review
Both stories are reasonably well written, unfortunately we flip back and forth between the two stories throughout. If both of these were pertinent to the overall plot of the book I would be happy with it, but the Doomsday plot feels so forced into what was going on that it is just off-putting. I am unsure as to why Jesse is losing her speed, or why she's so closed down about it. Also, there is a point where Dick calls Kara his little sister. Did I miss something in one of the random Super or Bat books I don't get, 'cause last I knew she was crushing on him and this seems a bit weird now. Anyhow, this book has me so conflicted that I'm not sure what to give it. When I enjoyed something, it really hit, but when I didn't enjoy something I just didn't know what to think. What I didn't goes on a while, and I touched on most of it above. The cover gives away a surprise from the issue, as well as showing characters who aren't in the book and the team beaten on the ground. Doomsday and Eclipso are one trick ponies, back doing their same old thing for the most part. To really get what's going on here, you need to have read JSA, Reign of Doomsday, and the various hues of Lanterns. Jesse's sudden power loss and need to talk to someone without ever even thinking of her husband is just weird. I'm sorry, I know Robinson's JLA is popular in some circles, and I thought it was getting better, but this one was just bad in my view. Read Full Review
