I actually care about Skeletor's character now. I always felt he was a dorky character but Fialkov and Iriving have made him interesting. This isn't the cackling buffoon seen in the old animated series. This is one with a more vicious nature. It's a spooky and compelling origin. It's unfortunate the story couldn't be longer. It felt as if it had to be rushed a tad in order to be contained in one issue. I now wan to see what's next for Skeletor. I may even go back and re-read the current printed and digital MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE issues since I now look at Skeletor in a different light. With Frazer Irving coloring and inking his own art there isn't a panel in the comic book that looks strange. His art is extremely consistent and colored in a superb fashion. The only true nitpick of his style is the fact that the images lack fluidity in most cases. In the sense that they seem static as if nothing is moving.The series has already built a strong foundation in a big important villain, if execution can stay this dynamic we could be looking at the He-Man reboot that finally sticks. There's nothing inherently cheesy about the world of Eternia - it's a great blend of science and sorcery, a really colorfully interesting fantasy realm. If DC can manage to actually make a Masters of the Universe ongoing series that puts He-Man himself as far in the background as possible, we might just have a really good book on our hands. Even Fisto is cooler than He-Man. Keep that guy off-panel. Make his disappearance a back-burner mystery that Duncan, Mekaneck and Buzz Off occasionally give lip-service to as they struggle in the war against Skeletor's army and Hordak's legions. "Masters of the Universe: The Origin of Skeletor" #1 is not a kids' comic, though they will love it. This is an adult look at how serious a kids' story can still be. Keldor's downfall is a terrible moment leading right up to the reveal of his gruesome visage. You can earn extra marks for thinking of all Keldor's lines in the classic Skeletor voice, but mostly you'll be too engrossed in Irving's art to goof around. Read Full Review
DC has done a great job with its small stable of He-Man titles. They've taken a property that could easily descend into foolishness and managed to create some solid titles. Even thought it's a one-shot, I hope to see some of the war and other events leading up to Keldor's betrayal and descent into madness. Read Full Review
Ultimately, He-Man fans should get a kick out of this issue and the way it revamps Skeletor's origin story. At the same time, there are a great deal of storytelling flaws holding it back. Read Full Review

All in all it was a by the numbers origin story and though some people may criticise my comparing it to the old cartoon whilst I understand that in my view the majority of people who will purchase this and the current He Man arc will be those who were fans of the show and are getting it due to nostalgia from their childhood, basically it reads as average with good art but fans will enjoy it. Also Im sure I wont be the only person who while reading it read Keldors lines in the classic Skeletor voice. Read Full Review
