Ashley Rayburn is an upbeat girl with a decidedly downbeat past. Her father is a known criminal who now sits in federal prison, but still casts a shadow over Ashley's life. Ashley has bounced from foster home to foster home and represents a real challenge to the social workers who try to help her-not because she's inherently bad, but because trouble always seems to find her.

    At about 150 pages, this is a fast read, but has a great "Act one" feel that introduces another promising young hero to the line. Here's hoping for a sequel and a team-up with Hummingbird and Grey Owl down the line! Read Full Review

    As the father of a young daughter, it's great to see books like this. It is very empowering to that demographic, but also anyone in the age range. Ashley is relatable to kids of all ages, and adults can see a lot of themselves in her when they were younger. Her best friend Luke, is also a great role model for boys who don't follow the status quo and follow their own path. That's what the story of Primer is all about; embracing what makes you different and following your own path. It's a message everyone can relate to. Read Full Review

    Although I wish the book was longer and some elements were fleshed out more, 'Primer' does plenty right as a coming-of-age superhero narrative that explores a literally colorful array of superpowers. Read Full Review
