So much of the success of this comic comes down to Gleason who now has had years of practice drawing Damian that's clearly informed how he writes the character as well. He's always done an amazing job emphasizing Damian's youthful innocence, that despite being a pre-teen with all the emotions that entails, he's a killer with a life defined by the sins he's committed and Robin: Son of Batman has really focused on that contrast between innocence lost and youthful, childlike impetuousness. This issue starts off a new story arc as Damian takes a break from his year of blood retribution. We're introduced to new and old villains as well as a good friend of Robin's. I was very pleased with the direction that Gleason choose to take this story in. While I was expecting to get more artifact recompense, I was instead given a heartfelt tale filled with classic Damianminutiae and outstanding art. Although it does boast a hoard of quirky villains that some might find off-putting, the trade-off is an excellent scene between father and son that had me begging for more. Read Full Review
Its also quite obvious that the end goal of the antagonist is to bring Maya back as Nobody…so it will be intriguing as to how/when this will happen. I do like that Maya has found some solace and happiness and isnt so concerned about avenging her father. This is an okay issue. The art is great especially in the fight scene between Robin and Snowfox and Wunderfox. However, the plot isn't all that interesting. I like that Damian's way of coping with loss is getting to work which is consistent for him as a character as well as paralleling him with his father. Other than that, Damian fights a handful of lame villains that won't shut up. They're very irritating. I recommend waiting for the trade on this issue. Read Full Review
I like this, really. This issue have good moments. First, we can see Damian stalking to his father, then to Maya, and we have Goliath, Titus, Alfred, and Bat-Cow. The only but that I find is the mistake with the Damian's cat name.
it’s great to see Patrick Gleason back in his groove after having his run been interrupted by a crossover. now the book is back on track and we see Damian back in Gotham and checking up on his father (Bruce Wayne).
it was welcome seeing Gleason’s handling of the emotional moment of Damian what’s become of his father, as well as several other moments later on when you truly feel Damian’s isolation and abandonment.
Pat Gleason has a witty sense of humor that shows though, and there a wonderful pivotal moment when Damian get a visit from and old friend.
the splash page at the very end left me absolutely excited for the next issue!
the last page gave a good chuckle when seeing what Damian’s pet cat was doing! xD more
