    Major Spoilers - Stephen Schleicher

    Nov 07, 2008

With all the head scratching going on over the stories in the DC Universe lately, I have no idea where this story is going. And you know what? I love it. Considering the title of the issue features Superman, Supergirl, and Maelstrom, I know well be seeing more of these characters and interactions, making this a five issue series I know Im going to dig. Superman/Supergirl: Maelstrom #1 earns a well deserved 4.5 Stars out of 5. Read Full Review

    Comics Bulletin - Ray Tate

Noto's art is irresistible to me. Palmiotti's presence, though, allows for one of those rare birds that actually works within the context of what little continuity DC has and as a stand alone adventure requiring very little knowledge of such things. These aspects make Superman/Supergirl an essential purchase for fans of the characters. Read Full Review

Comic Book Bin - Koppy McFad

The art has a nice, clean rounded look that makes the human characters easy to sympathise with. But it also makes the villains look less fearsome. This comic has got to have the cleanest depiction of Apokalips ever. Read Full Review

Maelstrom is only interesting inasmuch as her mission is a tad unusual. She wants the love and affection of Darkseid, and she hopes to win it by killing Superman. I don't know what in the last 30 years of DC books would convince her such a thing is possible, but Palmiotti and Gray are under no delusions as to her intelligence. Her goals are fairly compelling, but the character is never painted as much of a threat. By the end of the issue it's tough to ascertain where the book is going to move from here, or what Maelstrom's role will be. I'd like to think Palmiotti and Gray have something better up their sleeves, but issue #1 hardly gives me any reason to hope. This concept, beyond being outdated, is being done much better in the various ongoing Superman books. Don't bother with this one. Read Full Review

    Comic Book Revolution - Jim

A disappointing issue especially after watching last week's Smallville. With the lack of story in part 1, I don't see how this can go on through issue 5. I guess we will have another couple of issues of Supergirl getting beat up. Then issue 4 will show her on the road to recovery. Issue 5 will probably featuring her revenge while Superman is unable to help her. I will give this series one more issue, but it is on the edge of the drop zone. Read Full Review
