Visually, the issue fires on all pistons. Goddamn but Yanick Paquette is a fucking beast. His work on Swamp Thing has been so good, so outside that box that I hope other artists are paying attention. His layouts are imaginative, his pencils perfect, his ability to communicate horror or action or beauty is above reproach. I especially love his eye for detail. While it may be disappointing that the showdown between Swamp Thing and the forces of the Rot is not quite as epic as it may have been, Snyder and his artistic teams have crafted a very enjoyable episode for the title in issue #9. The new status quo for the book going forward is quite interesting both for further exploration of Alec Holland's personal life and for the depth and complexity underpinning the Rot. Some may feel that this book straddles two better stories rather than serving as a watershed moment for each; however, most would agree that it's well worth any reader's money. Read Full Review

Swamp Thing looked to take a dive this issue, only to rise up even stronger. This is true of both the character and the series as a whole, with issue 9 being another superb instalment of the series. It's a fairly quick read, as the story is essentially resist-blast-repeat (with a weird victory involving spiking someone's peaches?), but despite that simplicity, Swamp Thing continues to be one of DC's best-looking books. Read Full Review
