From the masterful minds of Becky Cloonan (BY CHANCE OR PROVIDENCE) and Tula Lotay (BARNSTORMERS) comes an intoxicating blend of history, eroticism, and the supernatural in SOMNA-an evocative masterpiece that draws inspiration from folk-ho more
The colors, without question, make the art of Somna move and drive the emotions felt by the characters and the reader. Lee Loughridge, Dee Cunniffe, and Tula Lotay continue to dominate this area of expertise in comic book artwork. Color palettes are curated with care and intention. I crown this series as the sexiest comic book in the history of comic books. Can you name one that’s steamier? Cloonan and Lotay lit these pages on fire with a compelling script and otherworldly art. This was profane divinity at its best. Lotay’s juxtaposition of two distinct visual styles was absolutely masterful. As far as DSTLRY is concerned this is the crown jewel of their flagship publishing company and they now deserve eyeballs on anything they come out with for the foreseeable future. I’m just bummed it’s over in 3 issues. Can we please put an end to 3 and done for Prestige formats that seems to be the norm in the industry??? My full take and a leaked transcript of Cloonan and Lotay’s early pitch meeting can be found at:more
