PRISONER OF THE HYBORIAN AGE!

Convinced she is either dreaming, hallucinating, or possibly dead, the recently reconstituted Red Sonja (formerly Maggie Sutherland, late of the UK) decides that her best shot at escaping her apparent nightmare is to simply permit the worst to happen. This places her young squire and ersatz teacher-slash-tour-guide Faolán at great risk, as it falls to him to wake Sonja up to the fact this is really happening — before she succeeds at getting both of them killed!

Theoretically, this treatment of a character could become a lot more interesting than the traditional read of the character. It's not like there isn't some precedent for it. Contemporary Doctor Donald Blake was thrust into the world of Asgard by Thors hammer. American Civil War veteran John Carter was exposed to strange gasses and found himself thrust into a pulpy sword-and-sandals Mars fantasy world. Theres no reason a long-running Sonja reborn couldnt develop into some interesting insight into the character of Sonja. Read Full Review

This issue was more of the same from the first issue. Some moderately funny comedy with the "modern person learning to deal with a primitive world" trope, but otherwise nothing really interesting or well done. The art is fine, the writing is ok, it feels like this could be a lot more interesting if A) the modern part and characters were remotely interesting at all, and B) they leaned more into "Maggie" learning the violent side of this world more than figuring out where to pee. She's had a couple physical encounters, but they were pretty brief and uninspired. Especially the crab thing. Hopefully it picks up next issue, otherwise it'll probably be my last.
