IT’S A TEENAGE NIGHTMARE!

There’s a certain man — name’s Ash, you may have heard of him — who is doomed to battle against the forces of evil, over and over again, whether he likes it or not. No matter where he goes, the cycle of violence always repeats itself — until the day that he arrives in the picturesque town of Riverdale.

This supernaturally wholesome community seems to break the curse that has plagued Ash ever since he first encountered its otherworldly evil all those years ago. Or rather, the curse was broken — until an over-curious teenager named Archie finds a copy of the Necronomicon Ex Morti more

Fanlight Zone - Richard Coryell Feb 4, 2026

The way Burnham treats both franchises with the respect they rightfully deserve is incredible. He stays true to the characters and the deep lore we already know about each franchise. This makes the crossover feel less forced and more natural. Not to mention it doesn't favor one over the other, which sets the story up to be a true crossover for both, instead of just one playing in others world. Read Full Review

Nerd Initiative - Matthew Roth Feb 4, 2026

Archie X Army of Darkness #1 transports us into the 80s and into a world of campy, horrifying fun. The clash of personalities is teased with Ash and his brashness with Archie and his naivety. This first issue sets us up perfectly for the story to come. Do not sleep on this! Read Full Review

    Capes & Tights - Justin Soderberg Jan 29, 2026

Archie x Army of Darkness is one of those crossovers that is so odd that it makes so much sense at the same time. Erik Burnham and Bill Galvan create a story that works so well with both iconic franchises while making it their own. It is so much fun to see that Riverdale is basically at the center of a nexus of a ton of different iconic pop culture universes and I cannot wait to see where this series and where Dynamite Entertainment takes us next with Archie! AIPT - Collier Jennings Feb 3, 2026

Archie x Army of Darkness #1 is more proof that Archie can seemingly crossover with anything, and it keeps the dark humor and gore that permeated the Evil Dead films. Read Full Review

    Graphic Policy - Brett Feb 4, 2026

Archie x Army of Darkness #1 isn't bad but it also doesn't feel like it really hits the insanity one would expect from the crossover. The fact it strangely jumps to the past to show Archie getting a job at S-Mart kills the momentum the series could have had by sticking to the expected formula. There's some aspects that could work well going forward but as a debut, there's better Archie crossovers out there. Read Full Review

Comical Opinions - Gabriel Hernandez Feb 4, 2026

ARCHIE X ARMY OF DARKNESS #1 demonstrates that great ingredients don't guarantee a great meal. A mashup with genuine conceptual appeal gets neutered by a structural decision that splits the book between party setup and extended backstory, leaving the actual crossover stranded in the flashback between them. You're paying for a Ash-meets-Archie collision and receiving a Stormy Dogs recruitment subplot instead. The opening promises something entertaining, but the comic spends its energy establishing that promise rather than delivering on it. Read Full Review
