While IDW has made its name off adapting Hasbro action figures such as Transformers and G.I. Joe, Clue: Candlestick shows that there's plenty of potential to these classic board games, as well. Dash Shaw's style might be iconoclastic and different from just about any other book IDW is publishing right now, but that gives Clue: Candlestick its own unique flavor that will make this book memorable long after you put it down. No matter who the final culprit is, you don't want to miss out on one of the most sublimely strange debuts this year. Read Full Review

If the rest of Clue: Candlestick is as charming and challenging as its first issue, then it might be time to reassess the original game given the quality of adaptations it has continued to inspire. Read Full Review

CLUE: CANDLESTICK #1 is a quirky, interesting take on the classic board game. Creator Dash Shaw hews close to the source material, while also laying out a unique vision for the story. While not perfect, this one is too intriguing a title to pass up. Read Full Review

Outright Geekery - Tony Dillard May 21, 2019

Clue: Candlestick does allow for readers to get to play with their comic book. But it doesn't allow for the reader to readily interact as they would if they were playing the board game. A good first chapter, it would be better read as a graphic novel. Read Full Review
