Overall, there were some great spots that caught my eye. That variant covers are beautiful, and the regular cover was pretty interesting to look at. Read Full Review

This issue shows just how perfectly "Jem and the Holograms" is suited to a Valentine's Day special. Funny and frolicsome, this special costs less than a box of chocolates and is way sweeter. Read Full Review

While not super pertinent to the main story going on right now in Jem and the Holograms, this Valentine Special is still a super cute one off that gives great character moments and humor. Bartel and Reinwands art is the especially fun driving force of this issue, playing up the anger, annoyance and infatuation especially hard. The character designs as well were especially great in this one, with demonic looking Jetta being a personal favorite of mine. Between this and Jonesy over at BOOM! While this issue may not be essential reading for the series as a whole it is a nice one-off story that adds a little to the characters and is a little slice of crazy fun for readers. In fact isn't that what a holiday special should be? Something that celebrates the theme of the day with charm and fun thrown in? It's an area in which Thompson excels, creating fun side stories that can be easily collected within the main arcs but also adds a little extra for loyal readers, while also having enough to attract new readers as a 'taster'. The issue is as romantic and frivolous as Valentine's day itself and has just about the same 'nawhhh' charm as receiving an unexpected card professing how great you are. Who could ask for more? I can't really say to much on this except it's an adorable read for someone who's in the mood for some slapstick reading for Valentines Day, really into Jem and the Holograms, or is a very very lonely person. Read Full Review
