Part 1: "Manifest Destiny." International student Andrew Marcus' world is torn asunder when interstellar forces, the "Kibrani," invade earth. With all hope seemingly lost, humanity's last chance may be a long-despised and forgotten race: the Jinn (otherwise known as "genies")! But are they our hope... or greatest fear? Combining the best of summer blockbuster fare and quest myths like Lord of the Rings, Jinnrise is a modern re-introduction to global myth.
I'll say this for Jinnrise, it has a great premise, and a great setup, but for whatever reason, this book just doesn't do it for me. It's not a cultural thing, but more the result of a story structure, pacing, and art direction that doesn't do it for me. I'm in for a second issue, just to see where the story goes next, but that may be it. For most, I think this story will be a bit out there as it mixes, sci-fi, magic, and an object lesson. Jinnrise is a solid introductory issue with a very unique and interesting premise. The first chapter doesn't knock your socks off, but it's enough to guarantee you will come back for the next part. Plus, the Jinn look amazing and pull off some incredible feats. Awan lays out a great concept with real possibility, so it will be interesting to see if he can smooth some things out and pull it off in the next issue I give this big summer blockbuster of an issue 4/5 Read Full Review
Jinnrise #1 is an exceptional beginning to this alieninvasion, as it successfully introduces an intriguing concept while getting the ball rolling on some very early but nonetheless compelling character development. Recommended. Read Full Review

Saying that, though, you have to appreciate that Jinnrise obviously doesn’t take itself too seriously. This really is just Genies VS. Aliens so far, so a dusting of hammy subtext at the outset is expected. But if they don’t make an “I can show you the world...” reference in issue 2, I’m out. Read Full Review
There's enthusiasm and fire in "Jinnrise" #1. There's also potential for a fun, entertaining story, but there is a most important need for a little more polish and refinement. Alien invasion stories are a staple of comic book adventures, but this one, which is essentially set up to be genies versus aliens, needs a boost to become noteworthy. Awan and Vassallo have displayed a measure of skill and talent, they just need to work on execution and delivery. Read Full Review
