Word Of The Nerd - Brent Jackson
Jun 05, 2018The main story arc with the Rat King that is continuing in TMNT #83 is honestly not the most intriguing story. While parts of it are interesting and fun, it still feels like the Turtles are just treading some water while bigger things are set up in the "B and C storylines." I still have no clue what the actual plan of the Rat King is. Dave Wachter continues to be a great match for these Pantheon "god" characters as he catches their intricacies well. TMNT #83 does promise some big things to come and develop out of this issue so it has me excited to see what comes out of it. Read Full Review

After a long hiatus, I'm jumping back into the series mid-story arc, but I'm not feeling lost. The recap and two pages of expositional dialogue between April and Stockman helped me get my bearings. The issue works pretty well on its own and as an intro to Manmoth. My time away from the series has given me a new appreciation for how naturally the action scene flows here. Donny actually took a back seat to Mikey's ingenuity in this issue, but we also got a brief moment between Monmoth and Raph that speaks volumes.

i read it, found it mildly entertaining. didn't love it. the story arc with the Pantheon isn't really all that interesting that it can be dragged out and spread thin like this. The Rat King is leading a bunch of generic no-name children to their doom. not very compelling. at least we actually get to spend time with the Ninja Turtles, so it's much better than the 'Trial of Krang' and 'Invasion of the Triceratons'. but that's not really that impressive a boast. Michelangelo shines in this issue and gets some really funny lines. there was also a dialog between April O'Neil and Baxter Stockman with a very promising set-up. hopefully the plot starts moving. this series track record of slow burn story leading to a lukewarm resolution is on more
