Jeremy Haun and Alex Lins build their horror patiently, grounding the story in Kerri before revealing just enough ritualistic imagery and creature horror to suggest something deeply wrong is waiting for her. Lins' enormous, nature-infused monster is especially effective, giving the series a threat that already feels distinctive. The mystery may be held back a little too aggressively, making the entire issue feel like an extended cold open, but the atmosphere and central character provide plenty of reason to venture deeper into Dooney Hollow.
