Read Comic Books - Joey Caswell Jul 17, 2013

Aphrodite IX has really been hyped up by a handful of us, but the hype is most assuredly earned through some of the best comic book storytelling out there. The story is unique and relevant; a combination which can be difficult to achieve. The concepts employed throughout, as well as the dialogue itself, are written with an intelligence and clarity of thought that is too often lacking. Finally, it is hard to describe the art of Sejic as anything less than flawless. This series really seems to possess an intimate relationship with perfection and if you miss out on it, youre only doing a disservice to yourself. Read Full Review

And of course, the art of Stjepan Sejic is beyond compare. How this man does it, I'll never know! I can read almost ANY book if he draws it, hell if it's bad I'll just scan the lovely pictures as if I was illiterate! I would recommend it for his art alone but the combination here is excellent and continues the Image/Top Cow streak of winning titles. Read Full Review

This is the issue in which everyone looks up and sees the shit heading towards the fan. There's nothing you can do about it since it's events that are already in play, but that doesn't make you anticipate it any less. I have no idea how long this series can go on for with its current heading, but I'll be there for it. If you're not checking out this series then you should, it's one of Top Cow's best titles. This issue was not bad; it just brought a few flaws to into the light a bit more. I loved the action, Stjepan Sejic's art is still beguiling, and some more cool science pages are in the back. I want to like April as a character, but I need more. I do not think it is wrong to demand a little bit more depth, a bit more story; feed me something! Read Full Review

Major Spoilers - Matthew Peterson Jul 22, 2013

There's a LOT of discussion about God in this book, with a cyborg taunting Marcus about his devout nature, and Aphrodite murdering a woman in cold blood as she is praying, all of which left me cold. The visuals never quite marry with the dialogue (of which there is a LOT), and they never quite get the fluidity that could make this story breath-taking, but I have to admit it's a good-looking issue. Successfully navigating the difficulties of its main character, Aphrodite IX #3 gets a lot of things right, and is visually impressive, and even though it doesn't quite stick the landing, it ends up being a better-than-average reading experience, earning 3 out of 5 stars overall. I have to admit, I liked it a lot better than the original collection, too... Read Full Review
