  Rick Remender and Daniel Acuna are on a generational run with Escape. This ninth chapter, which features a focus on Milton Shaw’s squadmate Flynn, delivers massive emotional moments and shows how quickly war can break even the strongest soldier down. There are some books that don’t match the hype that they generate, but this one surpasses it. Remender and Acuna continue to make magic. Read Full Review

  The short narrative that opens the issue is hauntingly vivid. The stark simplicity of it serves as yet another example of just how well Escape is working. Overarching flat lines take a while to play out. So it can be difficult to tell exactly whether or not the creative team is going to be able to follow through on the potential of what they're setting up. Little, isolated narratives like the one at the beginning of the ninth issue show that they really are being very thoughtful about how everything is making it to the page. It's very striking stuff.   Escape #9 is another gripping chapter in a series that understands how war can distort fear, trust, and humanity. Rick Remender introduces Flynn as an unpredictable new element whose experiences behind enemy lines lead to some deeply tragic moments, while Daniel Acuña makes every encounter feel dangerously immediate. The contrast between Flynn and Milton is especially compelling now that Milton has learned to see humanity in those he once considered monsters. Flynn's sudden shift toward ruthlessness could use more development, but the tension it creates leaves the series in an incredibly precarious place. Read Full Review
