A national trauma has been successfully weaponized-which is probably fine and very unlikely to end in tears or provoke an army of ghosts to flood from the earth to seek revenge.
The overall pacing of the series has been a little bit hard to gauge. Watters and Wijngaard have had a scattered amount of success in bringing together a coherent rhythm to the series, which has served it quite well in retrospect. The crazy scratchings of the story have helped to amplify its beautifully glowing weirdness. The ninth issue makes it feel like there are much bigger plans at work beyond the surface of the series. It’s an incredibly unique concept that Watters and Wijngaard have created with Home Sick Pilots, and unlike most new stories with different and unique tales to tell, Home Sick Pilots continues to impress and tell new and different stories than readers are expecting. All the pieces are in play for an incredible finale to this story arc, and with sympathetic characters all around who are in truth victims of the ghosts that haunt them, it’s difficult to know who to root for in the coming battle.
