This comic is reveling in its creativity and humor. The result is just " weird, but in a completely entertaining way. The art carries the story while also packing a lot of background action and gags, all wrapped up in caricature and bizarre design. Take MAD Magazine, Masters of the Universe, and Adventure Time and jam it all together " and you'll just scratch the surface of this delightfully weird world. Read Full Review

Kaptara has officially made its way onto my gee-willickers-this-comes-out-soon list. Now that the Manton's party is all together (in what I must say is one of the most organic getting-the-band-together sequences I've seen in some time), Zdarsky and McLeod can really get these folks into some trouble. So long as they got Motivational Orb around though, I'm betting they'll be able to keep their spirits up. Read Full Review
Perhaps the most interesting part of the whole comic is that the Prince of Kaptara is actually given some character development. The first two issues, he's seen as a self-entitled, momma's boy idiot, but here, he's got a bit more to him. I like that, and it turns him from the butt of jokes to"well, a sympathetic butt of jokes! This issue is full of great jokes and even better characters. There's just enough fantasy and science fiction thrown in to make this book appeal to fans of those genres as well. It's that rare book that you like but can't always tell why, so jumbled are its themes and overall sense of direction. In many ways the script reads as a "best hits" sort of ode to the space adventure genre, with Chip Zdarsky doing his best to cram in as many unique set pieces as possible. Read Full Review

"Kaptara" #3 is a little underwhelming by the end of the issue. There still hasn't been enough of a break-out moment in this series to turn this book into a must-read or even enough to make it stand out in a sea of great comics. "Kaptara" has a lot of potential behind it, and I hope that it eventually rises to the occasion appropriately. For now, "Kaptara" #3 and the series as a whole feel like it isn't quite cutting it.
