You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff Aug 21, 2024

Rat City has been an interesting experiment in the Spawn Universe that seems to be drawing it in a direction thats a lot more interesting than most of the rest of what has been going on in the franchise. Given the right momentum, it could really turn into something fantastic. As it is, though, it doesnt quite manage a fully realized expansion of all the monsters and mayhem. Read Full Review

The business backstory wasn't especially riveting, but it was necessary story beats to get to in further explaining Peter's challenges and villains. Read Full Review

RAT CITY #5 is an oddly paced issue that gives you plenty of backstory on two side characters and sends Peter Cairn on a weird mental trip, but that's it. Erica Schultz's individual scenes are well done, and the art looks great, but this issue reads like inconsequential filler. Read Full Review

Just a great release! So much drive and an interesting ending. I was pleased with the appearance of the main antagonist of this universe.

Unfortunately in the 5 minutes it took to read I'm none the wiser where this book is actually heading. This has the angle to be really rather great but needs a clear path with better dialogue. My concern just now for alot of Spawn comics is they lack a serious editor that really nails home the story lines before they get to this point. My prediction is this will be cancelled in 6 or 7 issues or a new team will come on board which is about the last thing any new book needs. Shame as this had promise.....JM
