Nerd Initiative - Eda Thomas Bagwell

De Felici does nothing but work wonders in this introductory issue. So far, this is like nothing I’ve ever read before, and it got me hook, line and sinker. Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff

    Apr 28, 2026

And then the boom totally gets lowered and the closing splash page. And it's clear that this is going to be a very enjoyable series. Fusion of so many different elements. And it should be interesting. However, the way these things so often work is that once the mystery is revealed it really needs to be able to run on its own. It's all well and good to keep the readers attention through a lot of strange elements hitting the page at weird angles. But once the background is fully revealed, it's going to have to run on its own merits. De Felici has done a brilliant job with the first issue. There's no reason to think that he's going to drop the ball on Red Roots anytime soon. Read Full Review

    AIPT - David Brooke

    Apr 28, 2026

Red Roots #1 is a striking and confident debut that thrives on mystery and mood. Lorenzo De Felici leans into uncertainty, trusting readers to sit with the tension as two seemingly unrelated stories unfold side by side. The result is hypnotic, shifting between brutal action and unsettling quiet with ease. While it withholds answers, it replaces them with intrigue and unforgettable imagery, making it hard to put down and even harder to stop thinking about once it ends. Red Roots is a bold, exciting, and visually striking comic. Get Your Comic On - Aaron Gillingham

    Apr 29, 2026

Red Roots takes two drastically different perspectives and puts them together with great effect. Felici bounces between these varying stories with ease, giving each their own breathing room without prioritising one over the other and leaving just enough intrigue to keep you wanting more. Comic Watch - Theron Couch

    Apr 29, 2026

Red Roots #1 features two distinct stories and carries the promise that they will connect in the future. For this first issue, one of the stories’ narratives is far more engaging. The art maintains a consistent dread throughout the issue, though, and goes a long way to build a horror mood before the stories really get there. The promise of what’s to come in this horror story makes Red Roots #1 ideal for horror fans. Read Full Review

    The Comics Panelist

    May 16, 2026

Red Roots surprised me in the best way.
I went in expecting a solid horror setup, but Lorenzo De Felici delivers something much sharper in terms of pacing and page construction.

The moment that really sold me is the scene with Kate opening her closet and finding the first head. What makes it work isn’t just the shock, it’s the structure behind it.
De Felici has us following two threads, Kate’s grounded, everyday storyline and Agent Sand’s killing spree.

And when those threads intersect, your brain automatically connects the head in the closet to the photo Sand was holding earlier.
It’s a clever bit of misdirection that feels completely earned.

The pacing throughout the issue is excellent.
