"SONATA'S ADVENTURES UNDERGROUND": Sonata travels through a hidden underworld where she discovers impossible science, a giant killer bird, and a young man named Pau, who sees himself as her knight in shining armor. He is also the son of the rival Tayan leader, which makes them deadly enemies.
Its not terribly original, but Hine and Haberlin delicately place a traditional pulp fantasy story in a breathtakingly unique world thats loving rendered in great detail. The fantastic nature of the world might be amplified with a bit more of a sense of mystery. The dialogue is definitely weighing down that mystery, but its still a solidly fun fantasy. Overall I was disappointed with Sonata #2. I'm still interested in the story, and the twists and turns definitely have my curiosity. But it didn't feel as tight or well paced as the first issue did. There are a lot of good ideas here and the central story is compelling, but this one fell a little flat. Read Full Review
