The gem at the end of this book was a short story at the end by author David Hine, which is about Hope's dream after her misadventures. After reading the book, you can picture the characters drawn in Haun's style and with the same shading as a book. It's also easy to see what Alice characters new people in the story represent. If you haven't been reading The Darkness since Hine took over, you've missed out! The introduction of Balakov, Jackie's Doppelganger and the Ancient Ones was a masterstroke by Hine. He understands horror and has used it to good effect throughout his run. Jeremy Haun and John Rauch have been perfect bedfellows. Haun's pencils deliver sickening blows, which are emphasized by Rauch's use of colour. These are creators which I have my eye on. Read Full Review

Jackie Estacado has finally bitten off more than he can chew in the new world that he created. Now, his daughter Hope is having her own adventure in the Underworld as writer David Hine delivers an interesting tale, leading up to the bitter end. This issue does feel like we are placed within an existing story arc but I felt like I was able to jump right in. The issue did contain enough story with sufficient twists and turns to feel it was worth it but it just did not resonate enough with me personally to hook me with for an ongoing commitment. There is violence and some nudity but not always to titillate, particularly the Red Queen (shudder). I like some horror but it is a pretty narrow window. If you like your magic with a scary vibe then give this comic a shot. Read Full Review
